Minecraft Texture Pack Resolutions Explained

When browsing texture packs, you will see numbers like 16x, 32x, 64x, 128x, 256x, and even 512x or 1024x. These numbers refer to the pixel resolution of each texture in the pack.

What the Numbers Mean

Minecraft's default textures are 16x16 pixels per block face. This means each side of a block is a 16 by 16 pixel image.

  • 16x - Same as default Minecraft. Best performance
  • 32x - 2x the default detail. Slight performance impact
  • 64x - 4x detail. Noticeable improvement in visual quality
  • 128x - 8x detail. Significant visual upgrade, requires good hardware
