How to Install Minecraft Texture Packs

Texture packs (also called resource packs) change the look and feel of Minecraft by replacing the default textures with custom ones. Whether you want a realistic look, a cartoon style, or a competitive PvP advantage, installing them is straightforward.

Java Edition

  1. Download the texture pack - Find a pack you like on PacksMC and download the .zip file
  2. Open Minecraft - Launch Minecraft Java Edition
  3. Go to Options - Click "Options" then "Resource Packs"
  4. Open pack folder - Click "Open Pack Folder" - this opens your resourcepacks directory
  5. Move the file - Drag the downloaded .zip file into this folder (do NOT unzip it)
  6. Activate the pack - Back in Minecraft, the pack should appear on the left. Click the arrow to move it to the right (active) side
  7. Click Done - The game will reload with your new textures

Bedrock Edition (Windows 10/11, Mobile, Console)

  1. Download a .mcpack file - PacksMC provides Bedrock-compatible downloads where available
  2. Double-click the file - On Windows, double-clicking a .mcpack file will auto-import it into Minecraft
  3. On mobile - Tap the downloaded file, and it should open in Minecraft automatically
  4. Activate - Go to Settings > Global Resources or create/edit a world and add the pack

Using Popular Launchers

If you use launchers like MultiMC, Prism Launcher, or GDLauncher, the process is similar:

  • Open the launcher instance settings
  • Navigate to Resource Packs
  • Add the .zip file directly

Troubleshooting

  • Pack not showing up? Make sure the .zip contains a pack.mcmeta file at the root level
  • Textures look broken? The pack might be for a different Minecraft version. Use PacksMC's version converter to fix this
  • Performance issues? Higher resolution packs (256x, 512x) need more RAM. Allocate at least 4GB for high-res packs

Pro Tips

  • You can stack multiple packs - packs higher in the list take priority
  • Use PacksMC's preview feature to see how a pack looks before downloading
  • The PacksMC converter can automatically adapt packs to your Minecraft version
